I used macs from system 7.1 all the way up till 8.6 and i've been using windows for the past 4 years and I think i've finally found a reason to switch back(G5). Anyway, my question being, with my past mac experience, will I be able to jump right in and have a good idea of how things work?

My guess is that in a couple of days, you will be up to speed. OSX is kind of a synthesis of the old OS and windows + some more features, since the newer versions of the OS' of both platforms has "stolen" features of each other for quite some time. I find OSX quite intuitive and easy to use. Had no problems coming from a windows/unix/linux background. You, with your past mac experience should manage just fine.

Do you have and linux/unix experience?

You'll probably be a little list for the first few days, but it is *easy* to get back in the rhythm.

You won't regret it.

You'll love it then. Being able to run OpenOffice and Photoshop (or <insert X11 app here> and <insert OSX app here> side by side is just cool. The UI will take some getting used to (it inherits some from its NeXTStep roots), but it's quite nice overall. The open/save dialogs and ftp in the Finder are generally regarded as a mess, but they're fixed in 10.3
