i recently reformatted and installed Jag on my Dual 867, and it has been acting up. i am reluctant to reformat again, as it would take ages to re set everything up, and ive done the process 4-5 times lately.

here are some of the problems that i have been having...some are serious, some are not...
  • If i click on the apple menu, and then go to system prefrences, nothing happens.
  • the computer often goes into stand by mode and turns on the HDs...even though those options are not selected in the energy saver prefrences
  • if i select multiple jpegs, they dont open in preview
  • Internet Sharing acts up from time to time (sometimes working, and then others not)

ive booted from the jag cd, and i have tried to repair the HD and the permissions, but to no avail...

any ideas whats going on? if it helps, or effects anything, i have panther on another HD in my computer...

...is there anything i can do that isnt reinstalling to fix these problems?

Did you restore your user folder too? Possibly there are some corrupt plist files. Did you try to create a new account and see if the same problems occur?

I have also had some 'issues' running Jaguar on a Dual 867 in the last few months...

Random crashes, Application lockups, preference ignoring etc etc

All the other machines I have had/have, run/ran Jag perfectly, just not the Dual 867...

Weird.

Why not reinstall? It will definitely solve all your problems, without having to worry about diagnosing a damaged OS.

I had the same setup/problems as you. Erased Panther, and that fixed everything. To open documents properly, right click and select open with... and choose the 10.2 version of the application.

I have a Dual 867 that has been totally solid for me. And instead of doing a clean install, you should just do an archive and install. That will give you a fresh system without you having to redo so many of the settings.
