Hope this isn't a topic that will get locked? i was just wondering if anyone out there has tried out digital cameras with Panther? if so, is it any different than Jaguar? more support for a wider range of cameras? is Image Capture different? (i use image capture in jag, i don't like iPhoto as much)

What more do you want? Every one of my digital cameras shows up as a hard drive on my desktop. I simply drag them onto my hard drive.

Am I missing something?

I've never* plugged anything into my computer and have it not not just work. This is with Jaguar. DV cameras, digital cameras, sony, nikkon, JVC, panasonic, Cannon, and a whole bunch of other crap. Mice, keyboards, anything. Usually the drivers would enhance performance or give more options, but plug and play gave functional use.

* This isn't entirely true. My lide30 scanner didn't, but I knew it wouldn't because Cannon didn't use the standard Twain mechanism, instead they needed to implement their own little system, and it gave me some trouble till I finally bought VueScan, which works perfectly with it.

Apparently you can capture images over the network with Image Capture in Panther, so yes, there are some new features.

If you set Image Capture up to share your camera you can view it across a network using a web browser, it sets up a web server on port 8080, in Safari you can find them quickly on a local network thanks to Rendezvous.

It gives you a nice window where you can see all the images on the camera in list or icon view. List view shows you exif data. You can double click on an image to see a larger version and then move between images.

You get buttons which allow you to download or delete images from the camera. There is also a button marked 'Take Picture' but it was grayed out for me.

There are also 2 tabs at the top, the one marked 'Image Browser' is the normal view you get, the other one marked 'Remote Monitor' is grayed out so I can't use it.

You can also access the camera remotely using Image Capture. You can browse to find cameras on other machines and once you connect it behaves exactly as if the camera was connected to your local machine. This is very nice + works for scanners too.
Nothing to see, move along.

This'll be quite a boon for labs with digital cameras attached to microscopes, etc. Very, very nice.
