Other than going to a tutor at school is there any algebra help apps out there?

If not, how about a native calculator to input equations?

I don't know about any tutoring software but you can put in all sorts of equations in Mathematica and it will solve them. Check out The Integrator. Very cool.

Why in X11?

Otherwise, Mathematica, later Maple. Oh, and for the numerics among us, let's not forget Matlab, shall we?

Actually Maple is out in X11 for OSX, isn't it? In fact I thought that was the only way to run it. Until they come out with their full OSX version I think they just recompiled their Linux version.

X48 is a native HP 48GX emulator...

TI-89/92, HP49/48 emulators should work

Google for "CAS free/freeware" or something like that. There are a free CAS packages out there so I'd be very surprised if someone hasn't made a nice frontend.
