Hi everyone,
I just did a search but couldn't find anything related to this.
Recently I decided to try SpeedDownloader2 (or something like that, I can't remember the name now because I deleted it from the machine).. This deletion may also be my problem because now I cannot download a file from the internet.
As a new mac user, I have no clue how to repair this so that the original download utility in OSX will be reactivated? I am using 10.2.6 on a 1Ghx TiBk.
I have read people discussin the "repair Permissions" but I'm not sure that would apply to this??
Thanks, in advance, for your help!

What browser are you using? Internet Explorer or Safari?

Hi Chris
Actually I am using Mozilla 1.4 right now, but I also use Camino and Safari and have the same problem with all.
I just tried another download and this time I noticed that apparently the SpeedDownLoader is still registered as my download utility (as the attempt told me it was sending to SpeedDownload)and obviously with it not on the system anymore it won't work.. LOL

Well, the best I could do to resolve this for now was to go into Virtual PC and use WinXP to redownload the Speed Download 2 app and reinstall it as a trial. Since my trial days are up it looks like I can use this for 30 minutes a day until I can get my original download app working again.
I guess this thing isn't that bad, but to be honest I don't see much of a download speed difference with it, especially for $20
Now I see an uninstall proggie in the folder for this thing. I guess I should have used that instead of dragging this thing to the trash bin....
Oh, well.. live and learn

I don't know where to find the preference in OS X, but I'm guessing when you find it, the file will require manual editting.
You need to set the browser "helper application" for the various mime-types to nothing, so that they download.
As a work around, you may be able to right-click (or control-click) on the links and choose to save the file from the pop-up menu.

Hi Brass
Thanks for the try, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to reset this thing.. It seems most downloads don't offer a "save file as" or "download file" rightclick option, just the save link stuff.
I'll keep looking.. LOL, BTW Manual editing was not something I was hoping to get into this quick.. hahaha
