how do I do that? is the system password for boot the same as the password I use to add software such as system updates?

Id hate to set it to password on boot and find out its some sort of Different password that Ive long forgotten!!

Depends what you mean by "password on boot". If you mean your log-in password, yes, it's the same thing as the password you type when you have to authenticate to perform priviliged actions (such as installing system updates).

hi rotut.

Yes, the password you use for installing updates is the same as the password that would be required to log-in to your system.

And to change it from the auto-login to one that requires a password, just open System Preferences and choose 'Accounts' from the 'System' heading. You can set it to ask for a password there.
