I just noticed recently, in OSX 10.2.6, in my brother's user account (he's a reg user) the virex icon is a generic app icon. But when I turn his account to an admin. account the virex icon turns back into a virex icon.

I tried reinstalling virex, erasing his account and recreating it, but the icon prob with virex is only solved by making my bro's account into an admin account.

I have no icon problems in my account, maybe cause my account is an admin account.

Does erasing the system and user cache affect this? Cuz I erased it except for internet cache, based on advice given in the Aug 2003 issue of MacAddict(pg23). I used Cocktail.

Can someone please help me?

Come to think of it, the virex icon prob started even before i erased the system cache and user cache.

I just tried creating extra reg user accounts. The virex icon looks ok but when I shut down the computer and boot it up and log into the reg user account the virex icon looks like an generic app icon.

I'm using the .mac virex edition and virex is set as a login item.

The conclusion is that with any reg user accounts the virex icon will change and stay as a generic app icon and if I change a reg user account to a admin account, the virex icon prob goes away.

Sounds like a permission problem/bug. Try running repair permissions (doesn't everybody suggest this.... its getting old), but this may do nothing if the default permission in its reciept stops users other than admin users from having access to the apps icon - unusual, but not unheard of. From memory, .Mac Virex is installs the directory /sw. You could try using the application Batchmod to change this directories permissions if repair permission doesn't do it.

I tried repairing permissions but the problem persists. My only solution was to make my brother's account an admin account.

By the way, what's Batchmod?
