As a way to encourage new members and reward existing members, Apple should offer a discount (25% or more) to .Mac users.
This might be a good way to get people to subscribe to .Mac or renew their memberships.
What do you think? Should we send feedback to Apple suggesting they do this?

Well, they are offering free games or $20 towards an Apple Store purchase. Plus, if you get friends to join .Mac, you get so much taken off for each one as well.

I suggested something like this through .mac feedback a while ago - but i doubt they'll do it. Why combine two revenue streams?

Why not just put the $20 off anything at the Apple Store towards Panther? Or is it the "physical" Apple Stores only, not apple.com store?

Sounds good to me. But I do not mind paying full price for the upgrade.

I assume you're talking about the 10.x.x upgrades. Considering everything about .mac is done online, that would be utterly pointless.

Pshhhh... That's ALL you wanna see?!
I would like to see Apple give us 2GHz G5s for buying .Mac! I mean, $100!!! They better be giving us a lot for that much money...

I would love to opt for a Panther discount, though in a sense the $20 at the Apple Store is that. Should be closer to $30, really.
Also, I wish the $20 was usable at a physical Apple Store...that shouldn't be so hard to implement, but...

And for those without broadband, we have to wait countless hours. Sorry for seeming a little bit logical about it.

I'd like to see Apple charging reasonable money for updates again. Just like they used to.
Whats the bet that if I were to purchase a new Mac now, i'd still be charged full whack for Panther a few months down the line?
Like Apple though I do, they sure are getting a bit greedy in their old age..

I think a disproportionaltely large amount of money is going into the OS currently, compared to the classic OS days. Because of this, they are trying to recoup some of the development costs of trying to mature OS X. I think they are doing a fabulous job, with Panther effectivley leapfrogging OS 9 in terms of useability and performance. OS X is widely regarded throught the technical world as the most envied OS available. I can't count how many windows users have said they want OS X on x86. They feel it is too expensive. The price you pay for excellence, I suppose.
I am happy to pay for upgrades as long as there is value. I don't think the 8.6->9 upgrade had much value. Sherlock? Pssshht. But the upgrade to Panther has usability features and missing stuff that even OS9 didn't have. I'm not talking about labels here. Exposé, Font Book, and iChatAV being the most notable. Not to mention overall speed increases.

It'd be nice if it was, say, $139, but $99 or $79 or something if you owned the version beforehand. Would be nice.

That's why they're giving you $20 to get any game you want. $20 is probably the amount Apple is paying to get each of those games in bulk.

Yeah, you could even be an idiot and take the $20 and buy The Sims, or Everquest with that applied.

And when the new Apple Store opens in Cleveland, you can take a blank CD in there and pull down the updates using the store's broadband (of course, I'm assuming that the Cleveland store will be close enough to make the more feasible than going to Columbus).
I would like to see some sort of "club membership" benefit of purchasing .Mac. Like, those of us who've ordered a G5 get them first.

IIRC, my coupon expires before Panther is out. My renewal is this week. Of course, .Mac is once again slower than shiite so I can't find out exactly when the coupon expires.
