how do i go about sharing the /users/shared folder so when guests log into my computer over the network they can login as "guest" without a password and access the shared folder instead of the "public" folder

i want to create a very simple network to share files w/ my roomates in a way so that they dont have to deal w/ usernames and passwords
i know i could just start storing everything in the "public" folder but that would get kinda annoying and be less intuative for them
also if i can share the "shared" folder then i could learn how to also share other folders they might want like "applications"

You need to turn on filesharing in the Sharing preference pane. Then, they should be able to get into your home folder/Public without a password.

(I think. I am using OS9 right now at home, so I can't check this).

You can use SharePoints to also share the Shared folder. It's really easy. Once installed, here are the directions...

http://www.hornware.com/sharepoints/

This will share the Shared folder, but will not permit your guests to log in via SSH or FTP, nor will they have a home folder. All they will see is the shared folder.
