hey all, I'm looking for instructions for networking with a PC using XP Pro. I don't have Jaguar m'self, I got Puma, so I don't know any details behind what I've read, with rendevous, how hard is this gona be? He'd like to be able to share the printer with the PC... which I really don't even know if you can do...

Anyway, he basically wants to be able to put files on and take files off his mom's PC, not sure if he wants to work wired or not.. he really liked the idea or air port but I don't think his mom's has a wifi card... so... if anyone could reply with step by step instructions, I'll probably end up helping him out with it since he'll be new to OS X, but I don't wanna look like a goof and say OH YEAH I CAN HELP YOU, since I really know nothing about networking (other stuff yes but not networking)

Connecting Mac and PC via ethernet or airport is as easy as connecting two PCs. You cannot use Rendezvous, as XP does not support that. But if you have only two computers, you can easily configure static IPs: 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.2, for example.
Sharing files between Jaguar and XP is also quite easy. Choose "Connect to server" in the finder and if you cannot see the PC in the dialog, you can still enter smb://192.168.0.1 or whatever IP the PC uses and you will be able to access the files on that server. You can create an alias of the server volume so that you don't have to use "Connect to server" every time.

To share the printer, you can use GIMP-Print. Look at http://gimp-print.sf.net if the printer you want to use is supported. If so, you have to activate Printer Sharing on the PC and follow the instructions on http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/OSX/cups_...in_jaguar.html to install the printer on the Mac. It's not trivial to setup, but eventually it'll work perfectly.
