About 2 years ago I had an 9500 in my basement runing Mac OS X Server v1.2 (the old Rhapsody-based one) as a webserver and the system would email the logs to the local root user. For example it would send an email to root saying the weekly script was done and the output of that log. I know it required sendmail enabled, but is there a way to do this with Mac OS X v10.2 on my PowerBook? It would be handy to see the daily/weekly/monthly output and error logs delivered to my mailbox. Anyone have ideas how to get 10.2 to do this?

1. Enable sendmail (I assume you know about how to do this; see this article, for example).

2. set root's mail to forward to you:
in Terminal:
sudo pico /var/root/.forward

change /dev/null to OpenStep, or whatever your short login name is.

3. Install pine, or another decent terminal email program.

that's it. #2 is the only tricky bit.

Couldn't he also forward it to his standard email (POP) account? Then he could continue to use his standard account.
