Hi folks

First, I'd like to thank those that post advice on this forum. I come running to it when troubled and confused and everyone has been really helpful.

I'm somewhat behind - still on 10.1.3 - and will buy Jaguar soon. This seems like a good time to get the whole partition thing sorted. My machine will mainly be used for audio, video (just iMovie for the time being) and imaging work in PS Elements 2.

1. I plan on buying a new internal drive for audio - would it be worth getting another for video, or should I partition one drive for audio/video?

2. When reformatting the stock 40G drive during the Jaguar installation, would it be worth thinking about other partitions? I know it's advisable to install the OS on a seperate partition - does this include apps too? What size is standard?

3. I'm assuming I need to reinstall all my software and drivers, but that I'll get a new set of OS X apps with Jag (all the 'i...'s, etc)?

4. I've read about scratch disks for PS. Perhaps I should go for one of these too? Is this partition just for scratch, not image storage?

So far, with my guess work -

40G drive partitioned three ways - PS scratch, OS and then everything else.
New 120-ishG partitioned two ways - audio and video.

Does this sound like the right direction?

Sorry for so many questions - I searched through other posts, but just need some clarification.

If anyone could offer advice based on their own set-up, I'd really appreciate it. Hopefully, soon, I'll be able to return favours.

Thanks

Quicksilver 800MHz, 40G, 768MB, OS X 10.1.3

I use an 8Gb partition for OS and Apps, but not for large data files nor files which change frequently (e.g. cache files), as these will increase disk fragmentation and slow down the system. Have separate partitions for other purposes. Music files have their own partition, for example. I also use separate (invisible) partitions for Swap and cache files. This scheme is primarily designed to minimize fragmentation, and streamline the backup process. I keep the main OS partition small as some folks have reported speed degradation with large partitions. Size of these partitions will depend on your usage, so you'll have to figure that out based on your expected use.
