For some strange reason the sound balance on my system (10.2.6) keeps moving from center to random places to the left or right. This is very annoying and I have to continually reset it. I have heard from others that they have experienced this as well. Does anyone know of a fix? I have tried all the standard stuff already.

I also have the same problem, every once and a while the balance will be off slightly to either side and I have tried to troubleshoot and figure this out but nothing really makes sense as to why this is happening.

This is a known issue. Search Apple's knowledge base for an article. There is no permanent fix that I know of, but search these forums and you'll find a few other threads on this issue with temporary fixes (trashing prefs, etc).

Sorry to resurrect this, but it's quite interesting. I have noticed it's happened to me a couple of times tonight. Anyone else hear of a fix by now?

The quickest fix is to just open the sound prefpane and move the slider to center (for now)

It doesn't happen often enough to bother me that badly, but it sure is annoying!

I used to have this problem with my iBook 800... For no reason I would find my balance set off to the right, It happened a few times.. Then I noticed it stopped around same time as I installed synergy, might be that you are hitting some keys that are controlling it? Thats my theory anyways, It hasnt happened to me since I started using synergy, I set my apple+left to goto previous track, apple+right to next track... Let me know if this helps

I also have this problem it will shift slightly to the right about 20px or so. I kept thinking there was a problem with my ears. Lets hope that panther fixes this issue or even 10.2.7.

In case it wasn't clear I have the 1GHz PB G4 with this problem, not on the tower, though it's possible it's happened there too. I do recall the tower being off once when I didn't think I set it.

I got a PowerMac Quicksilver and I also encountered this a couple of times. I've noticed that it occurs whenever I plug something out of the audio jack and plugged something in.

Good to know when they think it happens, however I laugh at this because they don't provide a REAL solution. I assume that they'll eventually fix this, seems like a fairly easy bug to squash.
