Can anyone explain to me how I can archive all my old correspondence to CD?
As mailboxes fill up I want to trash old mail - but keep a record on CD, is there a simple way of doing this?
Cheers

if you're using Entourage, just burn ~/Documents/Microsoft User Data/* to disc. if you're using Mail.app, you're gonna have to ask someone else, as i don't use it, so i don't know where it stores it's data
you should've been a bit clearer

As wrwjpn says, backup ~/Library/Mail. Just in case you don't know, the "~" is your home directory, just so you don't go poking around in the OTHER Library folders...
I have a .mac account, and the Backup application works nicely and is simple to use...I use it once a month after I do all my bills in Quicken, and I back up my prefs, mail and quicken folders with a single click. Launch Backup, put in a CD, click the button and that is ALL you have to do! It works great, very intuitive. Another reason I like to have a .mac account. Some people think there is not much value in it, but it is valuable to me!

On a related note, I use ( I'm new to Mac's- Count the days on one hand **) I use .Mac and now I'm glad I did. Thanks for the Tip!!
When I first powered up my G4, running OS X v.10.2.6, I swore there were two branches of the Mail.app Folder Hierarchy, 'On My Mac' & ' .Mac' - Perhaps in my ignorance, perhaps in part due to 34 years with PC's ( Since 1969 actually ) I seem to have obliterated all traces of these folders-
Now I can't be certain where my eMail is stored.
Obviously, backing up all my eMail to Archival CD-ROM's would resolve this issue AND solve the storage problems. In just a few days, the eMail drawer is filled with folders ( I truncated the mess with A-B-C sub-folders, but it's still a bit unwieldy <Grin>
Is there anyway to be sure where these folders actually live?
