Hello all -

I've moved to OsX 10.2 and am finding it a vast improvement on 10.1

I've just about to upgrade my memory (on a dual 450 g4) to 1.25 gig (from 512 meg)and was wondering what real / perceived gain I'd expect from an upgraded video card.

I'm using the stock card at the moment (Rage pro?) and the gui is a little - erm? - not snappy? I'm thinking of an AGP Radeon 8500 so as to get the benefits of Quartz Extreme.

Can anyone give me their experiences of this upgrade? Is it worth the 120 quid I'd need to spend? (Ignoring the benefits of dual display).

Thanks in advance.

Panther will probably solve a part of you problems, but the card is still going to give wings to your setup!

Hope you enjoy

According to most info Ram will speed you up OS X and the graphics card upgrade gives speed and extra interface enhancements (Quartz Extreme)

Yes, both upgrades should net you some very nice performance gains,e espcially in terms of increased responsiveness from the GUI with QE enabled. Definitely worth the money.

Thanks all -

I'm a little vague on the whole QE situation (I've done a search, but found little!).

QE removes the graphics load from the CPU, but would I expect to see an increased responsiveness for :

Window resizing;
Scrolling in the finder;
Anything else?

Thanks again!

I got a Radeon 9000 for my G4 450 and I noticed much better response it also improved the system speed a minimal amount. Graphics show up much smoother. Now I can also use an ADC monitor with my aging machine. Just need to save for the G5.
