Hi all,
I asked this in the powerbook forum which, uh, didn't work out. It's amazing how the reading comprehension level has lowered over the years.
Anyway, I need to burn business card-type CDs but all I have is a Powerbook and a PC with a tray-based burner. How can I use the PC to burn CDs that will contain Mac apps? Essentially, I want to burn .dmg files on a PC. Pipe dream, I know, but I thought there might be SOMETHING out there. Thanks.
Mike

I'm not sure about burning the mac files on the PC, but just a word of caution...
make sure your powerbook supports business card CDs if it's a G4 powerbook. Most (maybe all) ti/albooks DO NOT support small (80mm) CDs and DEFINATELY do not work with odd-shaped ones. I have heard stories of these getting stuck in slot-loading CD drives, and getting them stuck isn't covered by warranty or applecare, which means you need to pay like $400 to get the drive fixed. But if you're sure they work, then go ahead and try.

I KNOW that they won't work on a Powerbook. Why do you think I'm asking if my PC can burn them?

This would probably work. You could make an .iso image of the CD you want to burn and then send that to the PC and have it burn the image (I'm not sure what you'd use on a PC to burn an ISO image). The good thing about these images is that the computer will just burn whatever is on the image and it won't care if it's formatted how it likes or whatever.

Oh I thought you were implying you were intending to use them in your powerbook. My bad. I guess the reading comprehension isn't that good over here either

?
I thought ISO can be anything. I know the CDs for my linux install came in ISO and I don't think they were HFS. Maybe I'm confused.

You can use Disk Copy to make an image. Put whatever you want on it, then change the extension from .dmg to .iso. You can then burn that image on a PC. It will preserve the HFS+ file format on the image since it is just a doing a raw data burn.

1) Create Disk Image with contents you want.
2) Unmount.
3) Convert image in Disk Copy to "CD-R Master"
4) Copy to PC.
5) Burn with Nero with the format as "HFS"

Yep, but that's something to consider. Since you're trying to burn Mac apps onto a business card CD, I think it's reasonable to wonder who you think you're going to distribute these programs to...
Anybody with a powerbook, or a slot loading imac or a cube won't be able to use them...

When a smart person (aka a person who knows most of his stuff and knows what his end goal is) asks a question and even includes details it can be the most frustrating thing in the world. People seem to make all kinds of suggestions that ignore the information given or does not address the question. I feel you...

I confirm this procedure does work. I did it several times with no problem at all. Make sure you use Nero (the version of Easy CD Creator I had was not able to burn HFS disk image, but Nero did it... You could also use cdrecord under Linux if this is an option for you.)

I just tested this here at work, using Nero 5.5. It worked flawlessly.

I do the same thing on my Linux box. Make a HFS image with diskCopy, fill it up, unmount, transfer and burn with:
cdrecord dev=0,0,0 -v -overburn -ignsize -dao -eject speed=16 -pad -data myimage.dmg
