I am having a trouble with my current dial-up ISP on the road. Often my iBook fails to disconnect from internet with "Disconnecting" message running forever in menu bar preventing me from dialing out again.

I've tried to turn modem off and back on in Network Preferences Pane. Tried to log out and back in. Modem is still trying to disconnect. Connection log window in Internet Connect shows "disconnect script failed".

The only "cure" is to restart. Is there any way to reset modem without restart?

Any Hayes-compatible modem should accept the reset command:

ATZ

or

ATZ0

Of course, to do this, you need a Terminal emulator like ZTerm.

Happens to me too sometimes...

I open terminal, call up top and cancel the process...

I usually cancel all modem related ones until the status goes back to normal!
