Hi-

I'm trying to update to Jaguar, but my install CD just isn't doing it.

My current setup:
400Mhz G4 Desktop (PCI graphics) currently running OS X 10.1.5; 512 MB Ram (two 256 MB chips); 3 Hard Drives - one 13 GB (my system drive), one 40 GB, cut into 2 GB and 38 GB partitions, and one 80 GB drive; DVD-ROM drive.

When I try to run "Install Mac OS X" from the Jaguar CD, I always get "Install Mac OS X has unexpectedly quit."

I have used the CD to sucessfully install Jag on another G4, so the Disk is fine. Also, my DVD drive is fine - it reads any other CDs and DVDs without a hitch.

I have even tried to boot up from the CD. It gets to the gray screen with the apple logo and the spinner, and then it just hangs there and dies.

Has anybody had the same problem, and do you have any advice as to how I might be able to resolve it?

Thanks for your Help.
Michael

I had a similar problem with a G4 here at work and once I updated the firmware on it, all was fine.

I haven't tried updating the firmware yet, but I did find the article on apple's site about updating before moving to jaguar here.

Being a PCI graphics G4, apple claims that my machine doesn't need an update, but I'll try it tonight in any case.

Thanks.

Is there a way to check the version of the firmware currently installed?

The Apple System Profiler shows the Boot ROM info. The firmware updater should tell you if you have the latest or it needs updated.
