Were 10.0 Software coupons ever useful for anything?

Doing some house cleaning and came upon the "coupons" from buying 10.0... were they ever redeemable for any discount on anything?
Cheers,
Mike

Good question. I think I have also some of them floating around in my iBook's box. I remember how they were worthless for the 10.2 update, guess we have to pay the full price for 10.3 too.
Apple. isn't there anything we can get for it? How about Quicktime Pro? I paid $1400 for a computer, how about a $30 serial number?

Stink different.

I don't think they've done anything since OS 9 came out. Not OS X, not Jag, not my dual 867 and not the 1.2 SP I just got. They're in each one but are just scraps of paper for the most part. I sent an email to Apples OS X feedback about Panthers price and those coupons. There still might be time if anyone wants to do the same.

10.0 coupons were required to get the free 10.1 update that was distributed by stores - but when I walked into my local store they said it wasn't necessary and gave me one of the free 10.1 envelopes

The coupons are for Apple's Up-To-Date promotions - they are usually used when people buy a piece of Apple software or a Mac after a new version is announced.

They have been worthless so far. Let's hope Apple gets off the stick and uses them at some point.

Nope, Krypton's right.
(and lucky, actually)
When I got my 10.1 update, they demanded an upgrade coupon, made me go home and fish around for it!

I ordered from MacMall, and therefore didn't need the coupon.
But, wouldn't getting 10.1 be pointless anyway without 10.0 (as it was upgrade-only)? Hence, there really wasn't a need for "proof" that you owned it.

it wasn't truely upgrade-only if i remember correctly
there was one file you could take out of the disk and re-burn to make a version that would install anywhere (i forget the name)

Yeah, it was some InstallCheck file or something.
I admit, I did it...only because whenever I'd have to reinstall I'd have to go thru the entire 10.0 install first.

For those of us who couldn't make it to a store to get a free CD, we needed those coupons to get the 10.1 CD for "free" (aka £15 in Apple speak ). So yes, they did serve a purpose. Also, if you get a Mac after they have announced a new OS and it comes with the old one (because it was already in the channel when the announcement was made), you can use them to get the new OS for "free".

Hilarious that they send C&D letters to all the sites about it, and had such a dummy spit (understandably) BUT, on the 10.2 upgrade CD's distributed with earlier machines (during the transition between 10.1 and and 10.2, deleting the exact same file on the 10.2 CD turns it into a full installer also!
