hi all:

i know ‘finder crap’ has been done to death but ...

the finder generally opens where i leave it until i restart

so: try this

rearrange and resize your finder in column view, anyway you like

STEP #1:

restart and open the finder. it’s totally out of whack, right? nothing like how you just left it

STEP #2:

before you do anything else, close, then re-open the finder

it’s the way you want it, the way you had it before restarting, yes?

can someone please tell me why, and how to skip STEP #1

i’ll be eternally grateful (or until panther is released: you’d think a big cat could at least retrace its steps)

Try to login as root (you'll have to enable the root account in NetInfo). Set the folder's view the way you want it when logged-in as root. Logout, and login back with your standard user. This may help...
