Jaguar crashed and I'm having problems ever since.

Intial boot-up is fine, however it does not boot-up all the way. I get to a blue background without icons, dock, or menu bar. The mouse and keyboard work. After pushing the "eject disc" key, I get a menu asking for permission and then I click on the question mark button. This starts up up the Help Center which triggers the icons to appear on the desktop. These icons, however, cannot be accessed. The menu bar also appears. The only pull-down menu I cannot use is the Apple menu. I can navigate through the Go To menu and access applications like, obviously, Safari. I cannot access System Preferences, any option I pick, automatically shuts down the program.

I have no clock, date. Somehow System Preferences aren't booting up or working.

After a hard reset and running Disk Utility, this still occurs and I need to go the backway to access programs.

Can anyone provide any help?

Thanks

Running disk utility turns up no errors?

Have you repaired permissions recently?

If not, try this and let us know if everything goes back to normal.

i would log in using a different user account and see if the problem still exists....

if system preferences are unacessable you can create a new user from the command line, although i wouldn't (right this minute) be the person to tell you how to do that....
