My problem occurs whenever I boot up/login, when my font manager (Suitcase 10.2) starts up. My machine (667 TiBook VGA) slows to a practical standstill for up to 20 minutes while the font manager starts up. During that period, everything is held up - starting up other apps, the dock, the finder, menu bars... nothing is responsive, except for the mouse. I managed to start up top in the terminal a few times while the slowdown was in effect (takes about 5 minutes to start up alone), and it reported that "ATSServer" was eating up all of the cycles. Killing the font manager solves the problem (until I need to start it up again).
I first noticed the problem using Font Reserve after the update to 10.2.6. I figured tossing Font Reserve for Suitcase (I was looking for an excuse anyway) would solve the problem, but it hasn't.
I also performed an "Archive and [re]Install" of jaguar, applying the updates up to 10.2.5, and the problem persists. I'm hoping I could get some help with this without resorting to a clean install, but I might have to if this can't be resolved...
In the meantime, I'll sit here, twiddling my thumbs… (waiting for replies and for my system to catchup.)
