I was wondering about my Apple coupons.
Has anyone ever redeemed their Apple coupons? I'd be happy to use mine for the Panther upgrade. Good marketing for Apple or bad businees? I'm almost ready to frame mine!

The coupons have never been worth anything. I seriously doubt Apple will change that for this update. I think the coupons are kind of like a "Certificate of Authenticity" from Microsoft. Just prove you own the software.
It would be nice, though, to see a little price break for current Jaguar owners. I own two licenses myself, and that should be worth $20, IMO.

They are Up-To-Date coupons (which is printed on them), and that means that they should be used if you buy a piece of Apple software after a new version has been released - that way you can get the new version for free if you send in the coupon.

I think this boils down to what the definition of update is... uh.. upgrade. Do we offer up the coupon and expect an response? I'm game.

I'm sure you could trick someone at CompUSA into giving you a free graphics card for your coupon or something...

A break on Panther would be quite satisfactory
to me. Good marketing or bad business?

Back in the OS 9 days, they were worth trading in for an upgrade CD. 10.0->10.1 as well, but after that, nothing.

The coupons seem nearly useless. I wish they would just include stickers based on the OS X application icons (Safari, iChat, iTunes, etc.) instead.

I still don't quite understand what coupons you are all talking about. My girlfriend just bought a iBook and I am wondering if it came with a set of the coupons you are mentioning. Does this mean that once 10.3 comes out she can use the coupons (if they are included in the iBook purchase) and get the 10.3 Panther for free or a discounted price?
Where can I obtain a set of these coupons
Very confused.....

I used one of the three coupons back in the day for either a discount on OS 8.5, 8.6 or 9. I honestly can't remember. Mac OS 8.6 was a free download though, I thought. Gosh, that seems like so long ago. What did the Blue & White G3's ship with? OS 8.5, right? If that's the case, then I must have used the coupon for a discount on OS 9.

These "coupons" have been in every MacOS upgrade and full version (including those with new computers) and have not seen much use. They are always included in case Apple has to have an easy means for you to prove that you had a certain version. INcluding them in everything means that they are always available: just in case.
They do not mean that you will be able to use them for anything. I have only twice used them: once with the "now up-to-date" program when I bought a computer that had been sitting on a shelf for a long time, and the 10 -> 10.1 upgrade (at a retailer).

Aren't they good towards getting the latest code (X.1.5, atm) on CD rather than as a download "update"? Seems fair for dial-ups but if you have broadband it's just stupid. Maybe I'll frame mine. Will they be worth something one day to a Mac collector? Like Mac baseball cards or something?
