When I cd to the etc directory, all I find is a inetd.conf file... Where is the xinetd daemon?

I have several Mac OS X v. 10.2.6 systems... all of them have /etc/inetd.conf files with everything commented out. The inetd daemon executeable is /usr/sbin/inetd.

I also have an /etc/xinetd.conf file AND a folder /etc/xinetd.d/ with a bunch more configuration files (one per service). The xinetd daemon executeable is /usr/sbin/xinetd.

What are you trying to do?
-DU-...etc...

The binary is here:

/usr/sbin/xinetd

The binary for regular inetd is here:

/usr/sbin/inetd

xinetd is configured by adding/editing/deleting the files in /etc/xinetd.d/

inetd is still included in OSX for compatibility purposes, but xinetd is the recommended way to go:

hmm... there it is! I did not see it there last night... funny.

I'm just making sure I can still turn on telnet if I *have* to for any of my clients. For some funny reason they ar still using telnet on some of their internal systems.

also "locate xinetd", although this will return a list of everything with the string "xinetd" in it, not just the daemon binary.
