I setup internet sharing on my Beige G3, and can browse the internet from my mom's iMac, but when she went to check e-mail it didn't work.
So I finally disabled my firewall on te beige G3 and it worked.
Also I have to turn on Internet sharign after each boot.
How do I keep my firewall active on my built in ethernet while not having a firewall on the PCI ethernet.
is brickhouse the only option which hasn't been updated in 20 months)?
Jaguar's firewall is working fine, it just won't let my mom's iMac do e-mail yet let it do web browsing.

It's many months later, but I have the same problem, and can find no solution here or elsewhere.
So, does anyone know which port I need to add to the Allow list in Jaguar's Firewall pane in the Sharing Preferences? At the moment, I've got 80 and 427 allowed for Web Sharing, and 3689 for iTunes Sharing. Or is there something else I need to do?
If it is relevant, I am using AirPort on an iBook to connect to the internet and am sharing the connection with an iMac DV+ via Ethernet.

Add the following ports:
Incoming mail:
110 pop3
995 pop3/ssl
143 imap
220 imap3
993 imaps
Outgoing mail:
25 smtp
Notice that you only need to add the ones you are using...

Thank you very much; allowing 110, 995 and 25 has made email work on the iMac.
Now, I find that Transmit doesn't work on the iMac. I tried allowing the FTP Access option, but since it opens everything between 1024 and 65535, Microsoft Entourage promptly refused to work on both machines at the same time (they're both my machines at the moment, running my systems).
So, does anyone know which ports I need to allow for Transmit to work?

Open ports 20 and 21.
Make sure Passive mode is checked in Transmit preferences. It should work provided that the server supports passive mode (which I guess is a large majority).

Thanks, it works kind of, just very very slow on the iMac. But I'll only be using that for Transmit very infrequently, so not too big of a loss. Do you have any idea why it is so much slower with the Firewall turned on? With it turned off, it is near instant on both the iBook and the iMac (Cable connection).
