i may well have to start using these technologies soon. i've had a look at python, and it seems pretty perl-like, and easy to follow the code. i've heard zope has a steep learning curve though.
has anyone any experience of either, and if so, what are your thoughts?

I have tons of Zope experience. I worked exclusively in Zope for almost 2 years. It's really an excellent application server environment. The learning curve can be a bit steep for developing new products, but once you figure it out, it't not bad. The biggest part is making the jump from ZClass products to python products.
If you have any specific Zope-related questions, I'd be happy to try and answer them.
