I recently replaced the HD in my iBook with a 40 gig drive, and when initializing it for the first time I created two partitions on it, one that was 25 gig for OS X and then a second 10 gig partition for later use. I originally formatted both as HFS+. My intent was to put Linux on the second partition at some point.

Now I have come to that point, but I am having trouble with the partitions. I know that I need to remove the second partition to make enough free space for Linux to create it's several partitions, but I can't figure out how to do that without erasing my first partition. I tried using the Linux installer to only modify the second partition, but it came up with an error. So I tried to use pdisk under OS X, but it said that the partition map was not writible. And the OS X Disk Utility will only alter the partitions if it reinitializes the whole drive, which is not a good option.

Anyone have some experience that could help me out with the best way to just remove the second partition, leaving ample free space? Thanks.

Nevermind. I figured it out- needed to boot off of a CD into single user mode, and then pdisk worked like a charm.
