So, I go to print an image from Photoshop, and the printer is not found. I check the print center, and it's setup there fine. Turns out no app from the OSX side can print, but I can print from the Classic apps. I've repaired permissions, repaired the volume, fsck, etc...
Anyone have a fix?
PS I have an Epson Stylus color 880 usb. Dual 1gb MDD G4. OS10.2.6

Have you selected the printer in the Chooser? If printing from Classic, you must select your printer in Classic's Chooser (look for it in the apple menu when in a Classic app.).

I can print from Classic fine, but not from any OSX apps. The printer is setup in the Print Center, but does not show up at all when inside an app. When you hit Print ot Page Setup, there are no printers to select. If you select Edit Printer List... (from the Print ot Page Setup menu), and create a new one, it still does not show up.

This happens to me all the time with my Epson 760, it also happens to a friend with her Epson 1270.
My *annoying* solution is to switch off the printer and unplug its USB lead. Re-plugging it and powering up fixes it. I think the drivers are re-loaded...

Well, tried this and it didn't work. It seems that system standard apps, like Mail, can print fine, but installed apps, such as Photoshop, can't recognize the printer.
Any ideas?

It took me a week to figure out what went wrong with my Epson CX5200. Hopefully, you'll find the fix a lot sooner.
First, try deleting, then reinstalling the Epson drivers. Then re-add the printer from the list and see if that works.
If you go to Versiontracker, there is a utility called Print Center Repair. Try this - it didn't work for me, but it has for many other people.
I eventually figured it out by deleting certain files from the Prefs one at a time (talk about tedious and annoying) before I figured out which file went bad. Go through the Library on your System and Home, then remove Epson and Print Center related prefs one at a time or all at once. See if that works. Anyone able to provide a clearer explanation than my muddled one?
Sometimes, it's just a matter of unplugging and replugging the printer, turning it off then on again, repairing permissions, or deleting the Print Center preferences.
Good luck!

I have the same problem. Apple apps print fine (Preview, Mail, iPhoto), also MS Word prints. Other 3rd party apps don't Adobe Reader, Photoshop, etc. I have tried repairing permissions, Print Center Repair, unpluging/pluging, turning off/on, and uninstalling and reinstalling the HP drivers. Nothing has worked so far.

This sounds like my problem, I am going insane trying to fix it. I have a powerbook with OS x 10.2.6 I have a HP Photosmart 7150. I can print from Classic but can't print from OS X. I have only tried printing from Adobe products so not sure if other stuff will print in OS X, but basically what happens is the Print Center shows HP Photosmart 7150 under product but under type says printer driver not installed. I can't seem to add it.
I am really losing my mind with OS X, everything just totally sucks! I have InDesign which runs on OS X but am now only using PageMaker because that runs in Classic and therefore prints.
Seriously thinking of getting a PC because I understood how everything worked in the old operating systems for Mac but totally hate everything about OS X, the only problem is I have invested too much money in macs now to change over, software etc. I have a scanner which I haven't even tried installing cause I know it is just going to be another big hassle in OS X.
By the way spent an hour with HP who tried to help me but couldn't reinstalling HP software etc, I rang Apple but they told me to bugger off because I don't have a guarantee anymore. Maybe they should make an operating system that works then I wouldn't have to call them! My mum was thinking of upgrading to a newer Mac (our ancient one runs OS 8) but I told her to get a PC instead as the new macs suck big time. She gets confused as it is, so how confusing will having 2 operating systems running on the one computer be for her.
Okay I know I am ranting now, just feeling really pissed off!

I know you don't want to hear this but I also have HP products (printer and scanner). And the drivers for these are crap. I was at one time an HP Rep and I can tell you that HP doesn't give a hoot about Mac users. In fact, my bosses boss basically told us to ignore the Mac user. That's pretty hard when a third of my sales were Mac users. So if you get an opportunity try Cannon, I understand that their drivers work.
