Do I need to defragment my mac? Also do i need to ever delete internet files(cookies and such)? On my pc I had to do that all the time, but I dont see any program for that so does that mean I don't need to do it, or would it be a good idea to get a program to do that with? Any input would be helpful! thanks

No, you don't. But it might be a good idea to keep some free space on your hard disk (20% or so).

No, you don't. Have a look at Safari->Preferences->Security->Show Cookies. Maybe there are some you might want to delete, but you certainly don't have to do it.

Nasrudin sat on a river bank when someone shouted to him from the opposite side: "Hey! how do I get across?" "You are across!" Nasrudin shouted back.

Alsoft PlusOptimizer (comes on the DiskWarrior 2.1 CD). It's an OS 9 utility, but works fine on OS X drives.
You can also defrag with Drive 10 or Norton Speed Disk, but they are not as safe as PO. You run the risk of major disk damage if there is a crash, power failure or even a power surge during defragging with anything other than PlusOptimizer.

You might want to look at the application Cocktail. It's a maintenance app that runs an number of chores that can clear up space on your HD, repair permissions, prebind, and run all the Cron (Unix stuff) maintenance operations that OSX would do automatically if you were to leave your computer on overnight. I run it at least once a week to keep things clear and lean.
Good Luck.

20% of free space is a good idea which I read that on MacFixIt.com few days ago.
I always ran out of HD space even tough I have two 120GB and one 80GB HDs. After I yanked ~10GB off my boot volume, everything seems back to normal again.
