A few weeks ago, outa nowhere (really), I noticed an extremely annoying static noise when viewing a quicktime movie trailer, it was like static on a radio station tha was not coming in clear or turning to a tv station you dont receive, very loud static. Over the last few weeks I have tried to problem solve, as it is somewhat random, not every streaming video I have watched has had this "static". but heres what is happening:
quicktime video streams and mp streams (played back with qt) will either experience static hiss right at playback, or about 20 seconds into it. Sometimes if I click stop, and play again, it will go away for a few then return.
I have reinstalled quicktime, and internet explorer (which I thought might be the culprit), but have just experienced it again, as well as now experienceing it under safari.
I am on os 10.2.6, quicktime 6.3, explorer 5.2.3, safari 1.0. The machine in question is an iMac DVse 500mhz G3 256mb
I have run cocktail to repair permissions, empty caches, re-prebind files and all.
Does this sound familiar to anybody, an ideas??

Does it happen at other times, like listening to music in iTunes, or watching DVDs, playing games etc?

I thought I was on to soemthing with the streaming thing, but last night I actually downloaded a movie clip off of apple, and after a few seconds it to experienced the static noise! So it seems it would go beyond simply streaming. Lemme check iTunes etc..

iTunes seems to be fine, checked by listening to my library (both mp3's and aac's), internet radio, and checking out a few music store previews. All good!
As I had mentioned, I have tried reinstalling quicktime, but perhaps even the reinstall left some of the components in place?

found a website last night, www.macworld.co.uk that causes the static sound. This is a first, I assume there is some kind of media pop-up add or something that was supposd to play?
