how 'bout an option for "it doesn't matter either way." I don't see a lot of time being wasted on them, but I don't think they're any more/less fun than other naming schemes they might come up with.
(last week's As the Apple Turns poll on possible alternative naming schemes was better - I personally favored the option of naming them after tropical diseases: Mac OS X Malaria or Mac OS X Ebola would kick ass)

Sure, they're kinda cool. But, yeah, it doesn't really matter either way. Apple only started using the "code names" for marketing with Jaguar. They didn't use Cheetah or Puma for anything with 10.0 and 10.1

I'd prefer them to just use the version number instead of code name. Code names have always been for internal use and now they are marketing them. Jag was cool 'cause they did the rendered fur, and it's grown on me as the name for 10.2, but I think it'd be better to just stick w/ version numbers.

As a total big cat fan, obsessed lunatic, and crazed addict (who watches Big Cat Diary tirelessly into the wee hours) -- I'm perfectly happy with said nomenclature. Keep 'em comin'.

Here's hoping that dogs will get there day when the next big iteration comes along. (i.e. what's beyond OSX - OSXI or whatever)
I vote we call it wolf. It'll be the fully 64bit OS with full BeOS like metadata, an integrated SQL database, and so forth.
OSXI 11.1 will be named Pit Bull
OSXI 11.2 will be named Razorback
and so forth. . .

One name's as good as another, as long as we stay in a particular family. Big cats, fine. Just don't start using lizard names in the middle of the series.

I think the cat names are cool. "Jaguar" and "Panther" sound much less techie and more mass-marketable than "system 10.2.6." Besides, as Steve showed in his WWDC keynote, Panther kicks Longhorn's ass
I just hope they don't run out of "cool" cat names. Imagine Mac OS X 10.8: Hello Kitty Edition!

Does that make a "kernel panic" into a "hair ball"?
