I made a PDF of a document I want to print. It is the full page. I send it to my HP laserjet 1200. It comes out on about 80% of the page. It has decided to do this without me changing any settings.
I've got 2 days to fix this before I get a windows machine up and running. I already had to buy a laser because the inkjet doesn't feed right, and it's a driver problem.
What the heck is going on, and how do I fix it?

Which program are you printing from? With Acrobat Reader 6 you have some page scaling options available such as fit to paper or shrink large pages.

I finally got it working. (Had to use another printer)
The problem is either OSX itself, or HPs drivers.
I guess I get to call some tech support folks, and either get it resolved, or get rid of the Macs. I don't have time for unreliable equipment. It's hard enough to do business work without having to spend hours trying to print reports.

Have you installed GimpPrint? I've had it screw things up a few times. On the other hand it provides better drivers than even some of the printer manufacturers have provided.

You still haven't said what app. you were printing from.

And you're shure that you haven't enabled Shrink large pages in Acrobat?

I think it has to do with your print settings like resize to fit paper.

try printing from preview.

Scott,

I had a problem with Canon's drivers where I could not even print a _Blank_ PDF generated with OOo to the printer. The error lay somewhere in PrintJobMgr which returned an error #, but PrintJobMgr is not Open Source so I could do nothing. Check your /var/log/cups/error-log and see what comes up when the doc _doesn't_ print.

I use a networked 1200 for all of my printing in the home office. I have had issues printing from open office - but not exactly what you are seeing. If the data isn't sensitive, could you send me a copy (or a bogus doc)? I'd like to try and re-create the error and help you out, if possible.

For acrobat, I tried turning off all the scaling options, I tried printing as an image, all did the same thing. It's scaling it to fit on 8.5X11, no matter what.

Actually, I think this is a common Acrobat 5 problem on 9 and Windows too. I've made many PDFs from Illustrator or Quark for people that all print about 80% size regardless of their shrink to page setting. On Windows for example, one time I had to have them print at 97% enlargement to fit a Letter page to Letter paper. I just concluded that it was some internal scaling that was completely independent of your print settings. I haven't tried 6 yet, but 4 was always fine.

Or not. I'm swamped, thx for the offer. I'll probably bump this thread next month if I haven't been able to fix the problem by then.
