i have 533mhz single G4 running 10.2.3 and i'm now getting a window everytime i try to open up a dmg. stating "disk copy helper unexpectedly terminated"

i've repaired persmissions, and checked and unchecked everything in the disk image preferences, and still get the same message

any ideas????

Try typing this in the Terminal:

hdid <path to some .dmg file>

This way, we might at least be able to get the error code it's returning.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

i'd love to,....... but i have no idea what you are talking about. i did go to the terminal and typed in exactly what you wrote and it did not bring anything back as far as an explanation.
i get "missing name for redirect"

does that make any sense to you?

Type 'hdid' without the quotes. Then type a space. Do not type Return. Then, drag a .dmg file from the Finder onto the Terminal window. After this is done, click the Terminal window, and type Return.

i'll give it a try and report back. i just downloaded for the heck of it "pacifist" (one of yours.. ) and it opened just fine without a problem. and then i downloaded "acquisition" and again it opened fine. the only thing i did was turn off verify checksum in the preferences for disk helper

I would move com.apple.DiskUtility.plist from your ~/Library/preferences and trash it. Log out, log in and try to lauch Disk Utility.

Does Disk Copy give you a specific error number?

no, just the explanation that it "unexpectedly terminated"
