I'd like to know if it's possible, through CUPS, to print postscript .ps files dropped into a hot folder (not drag&drop into the Print Center -- I need a watched, user accessible folder).

Whether this might require playing around with the Terminal, or something really simple and obvious, I'd be interested to hear any thoughts on the matter.

Thanks in advance,

Hmm, I had a set-up similar to this when we used Acrobat Distiller back in the (old) OS 9 days...however, I haven't experienced anything like it in OS X, sorry!

Wait for a few months.. and then with a certain upgrade you will have exactly this... can you say 'Desktop Printers'... and direct .ps/.pdf printing.... a real godsend in my environment.

I was thinking it might somehow be possible to print directly to whatever folder cups reads from when a .ps file is dropped into the Print Center.

Use Folder Actions. Create an AppleScript that will do what you want to a watched folder.

There's a script for this I posted over at OSX Hints that uses Fink/ghostscript to convert a .ps file to pdf. Ghostscript plays well with CUPS and the script could easily be modified to be a folder action that prints documents.
