I just purchased a refurbished iMac 17 in 1 GHZ. I love the machine.

Occasionally when I start the computer the finder icon in the dock does not display the "active" arrow below its icon, though the finder is certainly operating.

If I relaunch the finder using force quit, it comes back with the arrow.

Why does this happen and could this indicate a more serious problem I should address?

Thanks,

Chad

Interesting, that should be showing at all times yes...are you using any sort of hacks or other software that could be interfering with things? Did you format/install when you got your new iMac? Have you repaired permissions?

Just some ideas...

I get that occasionally. The only dock modification I have is ClearDock. Killing either the Finder or the Dock usually fixes it. Don't know the cause, though.

I'm using FruitMenu and Dock Extender. I was also using them on my old iMac 500 MHZ and didn't see this occur.

I get this all the time. I have no idea what causes it though. I've disabled pretty much every third party enhancement and trashed the Dock plist. Nothing helps. It's really annoying because you can't "command-tab" to the Finder when this happens. A force quit always "cures" in for the session, but it's very annoying.

Thanks for all the help. It didn't seem like a big issue. I'm glad, though, that it is not indicative of a greater problem.
