Hey y'all!
I recently bought a new 12" powerbook to complement my MDD Powerbook G4. I'm facing a dilemma, though. What is the best way to syncrhonize the files and settings across both computers?
I've found ExecutiveSync to synchronize files, but it is kind of slow. Are there any other recommended file syncing programs?
I also recently found iSyncCal to synchronize my calendars, but I have yet to find a program to synchronize my address book and mail. I want to avoid signing up for .mac, btw, as I already have a full featured web hosting plan.
So do you all have any ideas?
Thanks for your help!

You cn afford an MDD and a PowerBook, but can't shell out $100 for .mac?!?! It's a great service. You should look into it.

I agree. Don't think of .Mac as just a web hosting service. It's more full featured and will probably be worth it to you for the simplicity of syncing alone.
I also find the backup capabilities pretty nice as well.

I would like something like that too.
As for .mac, I find it petty limiting because you need an internet connection. I often switch from my iBook to my PowerMac at home and passing all the data on the internet is slower and take bandwidth that could be used at other ends. Also basic .mac is limited to 100MB and I would need to pay for more space. And why should I put my files on Apple servers when I would rather keep them here?
Not that .mac can't be useful to anyone, but I don't think it offer much to me.
What would be great would be something like windows offline folders that keep track of the changes you made and send them back to server once you reconnect.

I use synchronize plus to keep my user accounts on my pb and desktop in synch. I also use .mac for bookmarks, ical, and addressbook.
Both accounts are identical (user name and passwords) and I never run into permission problems. I only synchronize certain folders however (ie music, documents, movies, application...etc.). Synchronizing things like preferences could be a headache.
Do a search of these forums. There was a good thread on this several months back.

That's how iDisk works in Panther.

It's not that .mac is too expensive, it's the fact that I just don't see it being that useful for me. The only feature I really want to use is the multiple mac synchronization, although the new Panther iDisk implementation sounds very promising too!
So does anyone have any other suggestions?
Thanks for the replies, btw!

One suggestion is FoldersSynchronizer. Go to versiontracker, search for 'sync', and you'll see some come up.

Well I think it's great, but I would prefer the speed of my local Ethernet network. I would like to be able to make "my own iDisk" on the computer right beside me so that I do not have to send everything on the internet and then get it back from the internet.
I find it's better on Windows since you can make an offline folder of almost any server. Beside, I think that would be a great feature for corporate environment where companies may not want using iDisk for syncing their data.
I hope there will be a way for doing this in Panther.
