I've got my old Gateway 650 XL running MS XP Professional, hooked up by Cat. 5 Ethernet Cable through a Linksys 2.4 GHz ( 802.11b ) Wireless Access Point Router to a RCA digital Broadband Cable Modem. [ The gateway is prewired for wireless access, I just usually keep it teathered for a little more speed. ]
As of the moment I also have the other two ethernet parts connected to my new G4 ( v.3.3 ) and a rebuilt G3 ( v.2.2 ) Both running OS X v.10.2.6
I can access ( and do file transfers ) the G4 & G3 from the Windows box, but I can't access the windows box from the PowerMac's. It seems to be an authentication issue ( Error = -5023 ) 'Unable to Connect', 'Not Authorized'
I have to speculate, after thirty-four years with Windows ( Circa 1969- Hand-wired Prototype IBM boxes in NYC ) that the problem lies within XP Pro,
not the Mac OS .....
My question:
Will adding an AirPort Extreme Hub to the G4 ( An Airport Extreme Card inside it, I assume ) and an Airport Card to the G3** resolve the issue?
Will they then, all three of them, be able to recognize one another and do
file transfers locally in Wireless Mode?
Or, Will the 'Password Glitch' on the Windows end persist?
**How do I determine, with certainty, that the G3 is 'AirPort Ready'?
