Why do some selected symbols not show up? I need to use some of the mathematical symbols in an essay I'm writing at the moment, but certain Greek and math symbols cannot be inputed in AppleWorks (or other programs for that matter). What's the solution?

Make sure the font you are using supports them.

Do you know of any in particular that support some of the greek ones? Helvetica seems to only support some.

AppleWorks doesn't support Unicode, so you can't use the character palette to drag non-roman characters into the application.

Usa a Unicode savvy application like TextEdit to write your essay.
Nasrudin sat on a river bank when someone shouted to him from the opposite side: "Hey! how do I get across?" "You are across!" Nasrudin shouted back.
