Hi

Is there anyone out there using the Panther Developer's Preview & an Alcatel Speedtouch USB ADSL modem, who knows whether there are any incompatabilities with Alcatel's current driver software (2.01.1).
The reason I ask, is that at the time Jaguar was released, Alcatel's drivers were not compatable for quite some time.
Is this likely to be the case once more?

Thanks

Try asking this question on adslguide.org in the mac forum.

If no one else can help, let me know and I'll disturb my setup to test it for you.

I have a Alactel Speed Touch (the crappy modem Btopenworld give you in the UK)

This is weird but you have to reinstall and restart everytime you want to use it.. It will not work on a fresh startup without it just been installed.. weird but i'm sure Alcatel will put out and update by Panther's release .. If not i'm getting a new modem (which really I should do anyway)

Alcatel didn't get there act together and release jaguar compatible drivers for weeks, months maybe after Jaguar came out.

Don't expect updated drivers on the day of Panther's release! Maybe a month after...

I thought I'd heard they'd got their act together somewhat with Mac drivers these days? Maybe they'll be a little bit quicker this time around

Just as a comment, I got rid of my Alcatel modem due to the driver problems and replaced it with a ZOOM ADSL X4 Modem/Router for £80 from PC World. It connects via Ethernet to a Mac/PC and via USB to a PC.

The best thing about it is that it is permanently connected to the internet, as it has its own power adaptor. My iMac wakes in a second and as soon as I launch Safari I can start browsing.

I don't know why anyone would use BTo... Try PlusNet. Cheaper, more freebies, better service AFAIK.

On Panther 7B21 I get better connectivity from my speedtouch frog than with Jaguar. It connects faster (4 to 10 seconds vs 20) and seems to be happier about connecting even when the computer has been running for a bit.
I've had no need to reinstall each time i boot up - after installling 7B21 I unplugged the modem, installed the original driver, installed 'MacOSXdriver2011', (this seems to be the latest update for 10.2), restarted, plugged in modem and that was it.

Maybe they're in a contract and can't change ISPs
