I've searched here on MacNN and I've searched on Google but I've mostly come up blank. Are there any affordable Mac OS X compatible USB IRDA adapters out there?

The only adapters I've found either need to be imported from overseas or are quite expensive. I'm looking for something in the $30-$40 range that I could have in my hands within a week (I'm going away).

This is all I could find that work with OS X:

MadsonLine IrDA
Belkin SmartBeam

If I can't find anything elese I guess I'm going to go with the Madisonline for $60. It's a shame really because there are so many inexpensive PC adapters out there (some under $25) but really nothing for the Mac.

BTW, I need the adapter for my iBook so I can connect to my Sony/ Ericsson T300 phone & (hopefully) get wireless Internet Access while I'm away. As such I'm certainly open to other options if they exist.

I have seen some on eBay last week closing for as low as $9. Below are some currently open auctions:

So what is the deal for mac support, is it a drivers thing?

USB/IrDA adapters are standard, and the drivers are built in to MacOS X. Any which comply with the USB 1.1 spec should work. Lack of mac support means that if it doesn't work, they won't help you.
