Pursuant to this thread ...

Every discussion of expat installation I've seen assumes you can get past first base. That's my problem. With expat-1.95.5 and 1.95.6, I get a compilation error:
david% ./configure
checking build system type... powerpc-apple-darwin6.6
checking host system type... powerpc-apple-darwin6.6
checking for gcc... gcc
checking for C compiler default output... configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables
And that's that!

I'm running 10.2.6 on a G4/400 Sawtooth. Can't determine which version of gcc I have, but I assume it's whatever came with the 10.2 Developer Tools. I have not acquired the December 2002 Developer Tools update.

I would gratefully receive any suggestions.

Thanks, David

Easy fix.

cp /usr/share/libtool/config.* .

That should fix it.

Many thanks for the tip, Proton, but, unfortunately, it did not. I'm still getting the same error, so I'm still eager and grateful for suggestions.

Thanks, David

Hrmmm, I had no difficulty using configure in the copy of expat-1.95.6 I just downloaded. It simply cruised straight through.

Try installing the latest Dev Tools update, as that is what I'm using and it didn't seem to have any problems. Failing that, I've been told that it works fine out of the box on Panther
