there is one task which those Wintel hulks do better: Avery labels.
Appleworks simply sucks when it comes to labels. I want to print Avery J8160 A4 sheets. Can I? Can I heck?
On my crummy old PC I could do label tasks through MS Word, easily formatting text by size colour and alignment on the label. My J8160s printed fine.
Now I have to mess around with databases - geared towards mailing addresses. I want to print labels for the backs of photos, and each one will be different.
Can someone please help me? Is there a template out there somewhere. I don't see why I should have to stump up for Word for Mac. Come on Apple. SORT IT OUT!!

How can you say that Wintels do it better, when the app that does it better also exists for Mac?

Because the last PC I bought came with Word 97 (all those years ago) as part of the bundled software. I paid nothing extra for the privilege of printing labels.
Apple's own bundled software ought to offer the same functionality.
True, the app exists for Mac. But it costs a fortune! If Wintel users can print labels easily with their bundled software then Mac users should be able to too.

Not all Wintel users get Office with their computers - some get Works and some get WordPerfect, and you do pay for it.
Plus MS doesn't have a low bundle price for the Mac version of Office. They did for a while (though the Win version was much cheaper), but they stopped it.
Another thing. The Avery templates in Word are made by Avery. Blame them for not making them for other word processors.

The Quick Search on avery.com and avery.co.uk throws up nada for 'J8160' nor '8160'
If you could point me to the pdfs you mentioned I would be very grateful.

Go to Avery.com
Click Software > Blank template library
Search for 8160
Download template.
It took me less than 30 seconds to find it.

And remember that with Avery labels, the "8" in the number means "inkjet". Replace the 8 with a 5 and you get the equivalent laser label, for which there is sometimes a template.
But, um, yeah, just because some PC company bundled Word with your machine doesn't mean Apple has to!

A pdf? Uhh, that would be blank. People don't use PDFs for templates since PDFs were designed with NON-editability in mind!
