I was recently visiting my parents in Europe. While there, I installed macos x on their two computers: a pismo 400mhz and a Lombard 333mhz. I upgraded the memory to 500mb each. The pismo works perfectly and is pretty speedy too.

Unfortunately, the lombard had a few problems:

1. Sometimes when restarting the computer would reboot but the screen light would not come on.
2. When waking from sleep there wre lots of vertical stripes on the LCD for a split second. thereafter normal
3. Sometimes when restarting I had to force restart several times for it to actually restart.

The night before I left I decided to reinstall the system to try to fix these issues. I used the upgrade install option. Now my father can't launch applications and documents won't open. When he double clicks on the icons, nothing happens.

I've walked him through repair permissions, resetting pram, but nothing works properly. I'm not savvy enough with macos x to help him at a distance.

Any ideas what's going on? If nothing works, I'll have to walk him through a total system install and reformatting of the disk first. I DON"T WANT TO DO THAT THOUGH!!!!

Thanks for any suggestions

I have the same problem concerning the brightness when starting up a friends Lombard.
Just wait until everything is finished then push the brightness button once and there it is.
The machine is very slow with 233 MHz and 160 MB RAM, and I actually just installed it for fun, but with 2 GB harddisk it's complete nonsense to run OS X on it.

The other problems you describe are new to me and therefor I have no answer for it.
Good luck.
