Nasrudin sat on a river bank when someone shouted to him from the opposite side: "Hey! how do I get across?" "You are across!" Nasrudin shouted back.

If it's not an optical mouse, the mouse is probably dirty inside. You need to remove the ball and look at the small rollers in the bottom of the mouse. They collect dirt and need to be cleaned. I use a fingernail or toothpick to scrape the dirt off.

If you have an optical mouse, then it's not dirt. Perhaps the cord has a broken wire that's manifesting itself as jerky movement.

what about if your cursor suddenly flies to the corner of the screen every ones in a while? With an optical logitech, this never used to happen till i upgraded till os 10.2.6 whatever we're on now, cos iwas on 10.2.3 for ages, i use logitechs drivers, although i think the problem may be this desk cos the same time i updated the os was the same time i came home for summer and thus to this desk

Although unlikely, it could be that someone is controlling your computer remotely with, for example, VNC.

Try using your optical mouse on a somewhat bright surface, that does help often. Start with a white paper as mousepad and see if it doesn't skip anymore.

Could be that the cord coming from the mouse has gone bad, I've seen this a lot.

Try using another mouse.

This always seems to happen to me when I use one of the crappy Apple optical mice that are currently included with Macs. They seem to be extremely temperamental about the surface they work on whereas my logitech optical works on nearly anything. Hopefully Apple will release a decent mouse soon.

Quite possible. Where I work, we've just bought a whole load of new eMacs, and the keyboard and mouse no longer have "Pro" preceding their names. They're now just called "Apple Keyboard" and "Apple Mouse". Possibly going to release new "pro" hardware in Paris...whenever that is!?

My Pro Mouse cord is green around the usb connector

Could have something to do with it being twisted all around the back of the iBook though
