Hi,

on my dual G4 1.25 GHz I noticed a strange behaviour:

When I turn on the visual effects iTunes with the window maximized on my 1280x1024 screen, normal framerate is about 20 (why so low, anyway?), CPU usage is 70/70 %.

As soon as the Dock becomes visible, the framerate drops to 15.

When I start moving items around in the Dock, framerate goes below 10, but the CPU usage does not exceed 75/75!

If CPU power is left, why isn't it used to increase the framerate? Not that my life would depend on it, I'm just curious.

It probably has something to do with your available graphics card bandwidth in conjunction with Quartz. That's just a guess, though.

Are you viewing it in full screen mode or in the iTunes window sized really big? If the former, try full screen mode (Command-F) it is much faster.

With the "really big" window. In fullscreen, the resolution is reduced, which doesn't look that good.

I don't understand that the iTunes visuals eat up so much CPU, whereas my shoot-em-up games occupy my Dualie only about 50 %, and they have much more complex graphics.

You'll also want to check your Visuals Options. Make sure it isn't capped at 30fps and OpenGL is enabled.
