I saw this when reading about longhorn on another post on this forum, This is supposed to be the "Longhorn PC". Looks like a Mac Display Wanna-be to me, If I ever see these at a store I will buy a baseball bat and break every single one of them. No one has used white with clear plastic like apple does... So why try? If windows is so much better why you gotta ripp off mac?

I had only seen the 'presentation' Pic (the one on stage with Bill) and it looked like a cheap nock off then. Under those normal lighting conditions it lookes nasty.

Dear lord. How can any self respecting industrial designer allow their company to create such a hideous thing?? A prize for anyone who can tell me how much thought went into the integration of the camera and that "other thing" (remote?).

It looks like it's about to start stiffly waddling toward the user, with it's outstretched little arms like a flat-panel Frankenstien..... yuck.

I'm so glad we have Jonathan Ives.

Personally, I would prefer that they keep churning out turds like this one. Just makes us mac users look cooler

On first glance at the thumbnail, I almost swore that it was an Apple Cinema Display they were using. Then I saw the full pic... what a booty-ass ripoff. It's typical Wintel-centric design... copy the good stuff someone else has done (ie, apple) and glue on tons of unecessary doo-dads in an impractical manner. These guys just don't get it; Apples designs (and good design in general) succeed because they keep it simple, not looking like something that would walk out of a Borg cube...

P.S.: this is what happens when geeks try their hand at design. No offense to the geeks (I'm a sympathizer myself), but let the creatives do their thing, and let the geeks do theirs.

I agree. I went to the Sony Style store in the Metreon in San Francisco just recently, and they have some really nice looking machines. Not as unique and "friendly" as Apple's consumer Macs though. The funny thing is, the new PowerMac G5 flies in the face of all that people expect from Apple. Rather than looking at home in your kitchen or bedroom (like everything Apple makes except maybe the Xserve), it looks more at home in a high-tech, high-performance computer lab. Which is what Apple wants, I think: when you see the G5, you think POWER!

Oh dear lord! I saw one of these monsters in person at my local Costco. I just about burst into hysterical laughter at the mere sight of this thing. It's got great speakers...but that's like putting lipstick on a pig.

On an unrelated note, is Jonathan Ives gay? I tend to view Apple's computers as having a decidedly gay edge to them; they're stylish, minimalistic, attractive, and yet powerful. The computers of the PC world, regretfuly, seem to be the garish, "straight" knockoffs.

If that little dooda on the left side of the screen is supposed to be a phone, why then is there a regular phone on the table as well? I'll let them off for the mobile though.

Another point about this, Why is the Cam over to one side, and a bit low? This was noted as a problem by Jobs at the iSight unavailing. An eye to eye conversation is going to be difficult with the camera way over to the left like that. This being a 'new concept' thing why not integrate the cam into the top edge of the monitor.
