I finally decided to install the 08-14 Security update tonite... culprit #1

Also, in the past few days I had been playing around with getting virtual hosts to work with Apache... culprit #2.

I never got name based vhosts working, but was able to get port based working.

I used the virtualhost.sh script from http://patrickgibson.com/news/andsuch/000091.php partly, and then editted in the httpd.conf from there on my own.

I have since gone back and
- deleted the extra machines in NetInfo
- removed an attempt to put one of these machines in my /etc/hosts file.

So the reboot with the security update was also the first reboot after these other changes.

Looking thru my system logs, the error only begins with the reboot.

Again the error is...
Aug 21 21:27:35 zimmy lookupd[271]: msg_send failed ((ipc/send) invalid destination port)
its repeated approx every 2 minutes, and my inbound mail seems sluggish (at best) (fetchmail->procmail->elm) and DNS resolution also seems sluggish for surfing.

A bit more info... Netinfo now has two machine entries (broadcasthost, then localhost). /etc/hosts is
127.0.0.1 localhost
255.255.255.255 broadcasthost
::1 localhost
"set" shows me no evidence of a hostname, and "env" give me HOST='my.domain'. In /etc/hostconfig I stil have HOSTNAME=my.domain

Ideas?

Thanks,
Mike
