I haven't seen any info in a while on the new X11 and the package management system in Panther. Anything new to report in the latest builds?

Well, in Panther, X11 is moved to the Utilities folder instead of Applications, and is also at 1.0.

It can run full screen ala XDarwin but I don't know if its a kludge (like XTools) or the real deal.

It's the real deal. And the newer builds don't have the package management app in them. DarwinPorts runs that program.

So is the idea of an 'official' Apple-maintained package management system likely dead? That seems somewhat unfortunate for the porting community as having some official inroads into Apple may have facilitated the ease of porting, etc.

Fink is great and all, but it's not really up to Apple standards, if you know what I mean.
