This is a tricky one for me, and it's given me problems before, but here's what I did to get it appear the way I want it.

First of all, open a finder window by double clicking your HD icon in the finder, then go to file/ new window, then resize the window you opened via the menu, and change the view type, then close it, and then close the finder window you opened via the icon. Try this in the order I said, and it should work.

hope it helps.

1st - Close all open Finder windows
2nd - Open a new Finder window (e.g. by clicking the Dock icon)
3rd - Resize the window, relocate the window, change the view to what suits you (resize columns if you want etc), but absolutely do not click/highlight any of the contents of the window - doing so will void your alterations.
4th - Once you've got it the way you want, close the window and from this point on, all newly opened windows should appear as desired.

yes, BUT, i have mine so i have three columns. not 3.3, not 3.2, THREE columns. the next time i reboot/login, i have that 3.3 thing going on. i know it's not much, but it's a BUG, and it PISSES ME OFF.

friggin' fix it. while it remains, i'm blaming piracy. yeah, it's all his fault.

That's a well known bug and Apple hasn't fixed it since PB.

Close that first window and open another one. It should then have your settings.

The first window you open in a new login session always has screwed settings.

nope, nothing works...
I want to change the main window only, and all I can do is change the background only, when I change the icons size, its look cool, but when I opened again, its the same background I customized, but the icons still small. so, what can I do... to fix the main window and let it like that.

help

If you're talking about what I think you're talking about (the 'Computer' window rather than your 'Home'), I refer you to something I posted a very long time ago:

View Options for Computer window... that actually stick!

I still need to use it today, whenever I reinstall OS X. Hopefully Panther will fix this, amongst other GUI annoyances.

Ok, now we are talking about the same thing. but, I'm afraid I will have to live with that bug, because I don't have the gots to mess with the finder...

but thanxs anyway!
