Problem solved thanks to Vandelay (below). Could not delete this post, sorry. Looks like I'm having trouble deleting anything tonite.

Welcome to the permissions nightmare of Mac OS X.

open terminal ( Applications, Utilities, Terminal) type in

sudo rmdir <drag the folder in the terminal window>

click enter.. enter your pass...

either that or

sudo rm -rf <drag the folder in the terminal window>

click enter.. enter your pass...

Or for those that don't want to use the Terminal, do a Get Info on the folder. Change the permissions so that you are the owner of the folder and have read/write access. Now you can delete the folder.
